Feed me: Utter Waffle

I have really enjoyed each meal I’ve had at Utter Waffle in Herne Hill, London. Their service is great, the food is tasty, and the portions are well-sized.

I have been to Utter Waffle quite a few times because… well, I love waffles and theirs are pretty tasty. It’s located in a small restaurant (so make sure you book otherwise you won’t get a table) near Brockwell Park and offers a great selection of sweet and savoury waffles.

The food

Their stand-out for me is the “Dippy Eggs” dish. It’s basically a stuffed waffle served with soft-boiled eggs and a brown sauce. The waffles are stuffed with marmite and cheese. I know. I know. But it’s really tasty. The first time I had this, the owner offered to have the chef stuff more cheese than marmite so it wouldn’t be so strong and it was delicious! I’ve since been back and had it as it appears on the menu. It was still good. The marmite gives it the right level of saltiness paired with a fluffy waffle. If you’re feeling even slightly curious about it, give it a go. Really. It’s worth it.

They are definitely worth a try.

The other stand-out for me is something on the dessert waffle section of the menu. These half waffles are served with various toppings and are enjoyable for brunch or lunch. Choose from something more traditional (like cinnamon and sugar) or something creamier (like with cheesecake mousse). If it’s your first time visiting them, I would recommend you split dessert with someone as the non-dessert food can be quite filling.

It’s a waffle topped with fresh banana, peanut butter cremeux, Belgian Chocolate, and honeycomb. Tasty.

Service

The service has been great. The staff have always been kind and friendly to me. They are usually quite patient as I decide whether to try something new or have my favourites. They seem to come by the table just when you need them but without hanging around and making you feel pressured.

Price

I think they are pretty fairly priced, given London restaurants. Most of the menu items cost between £7 and £15 with the dessert items being under £10. 

I definitely recommend it for any time of day with any group of people or even solo. Just get there and enjoy!
